Galway has seven Blue Flag Beaches - bathing areas which meet international criteria for clean water, freedom from pollution, safe access, sanitary facilities, lifeguards, wheelchair access and information centres. Four of Galway's Blue Flag beaches are located along the Connemara Coast road - Silver Strand near Salthill, Tra na mBan in Spiddal (located approx. 1 mile from cottages), Tra Ban in Inverin and Tra an Doilin in Carraroe. Others are Kilmurvey on the Aran Islands, Tracht in Kinvara and Lough Rea Lake, Loughrea. There are lots of other attractive, clean and safe beaches in Connemara - just head down your nearest boithrin and see what you find!
For those days when the weather is not so kind, all the family can have fun at Leisureland in Salthill. Try the thrilling 65m Waterslide, the Tropical Beach Pool and Treasure Cove or enjoy the main 25m pool. Leisureland also offer an amusement park and an outdoor playground and a poolside restaurant.
